Most cats use one 3 kg bag per month, because tofu litter clumps efficiently and stays fresher for longer. Unlike clay litter, you only remove the clumps rather than replacing the whole tray.

Yes. Tofu litter is made from renewable, biodegradable materials, while clay litter is strip‑mined and ends up in landfill permanently. Switching to tofu litter reduces waste, carbon impact and the amount of litter going into your bin each week.

Most cats transition easily. Start by mixing a small amount of tofu litter into your current clay litter, then gradually increase the ratio over a few days. Many cats prefer the softer texture straight away.

We don’t recommend flushing any litter in the UK due to plumbing and local water system guidelines. Instead, tofu litter can be disposed of in household waste and because it’s biodegradable, it breaks down naturally over time.

Yes. Our tofu litter is soft under paws, low‑dust and free from harsh additives, making it suitable for kittens. For kittens under 8 weeks, their shorter legs mean they sit closer to the tray, so a small amount of litter on their back fur can occur. It’s harmless and can be wiped away with a damp cloth. As with any litter, we recommend supervising very young kittens to ensure they don’t ingest any.
-
Tofu litter is low‑tracking compared to clay because the pellets are lightweight and less sticky. A simple litter mat will reduce tracking even further.
-
We recommend a 5cm depth of PurrStainable. It can look like a lot at first, but that depth is what allows the litter to clump tightly around the mess, keeping the rest of the tray clean. Because the clean litter stays untouched, the whole tray lasts longer.

Tofu litter is biodegradable, but we don’t recommend composting used litter due to hygiene considerations. Clean, unused litter can be composted in non‑food compost systems.

PurrStainable tofu litter has a neutral, natural scent with no added fragrances. You may notice a gentle, cake‑like scent. This isn’t added, it’s simply the natural smell of the plant materials we use.
